Happy Halloween – PLOK! Remake

Happy Halloween! I’m unable to do game development for a few weeks due to LIFE. I decided to spend some time quickly before I’m busy to make this art work to celebrate Halloween. We’ve got PLOK as Ghost Rider, The Bobbin Bros as Joker and Batman, two of the undead fish enemies as a ghost and a bat, the Sprout wearing a pumpkin mask and Rockyfella dressed up as Frankenstein. We’re burning the in game logs because they’ve caused too many deaths catching us off guard. The bike PLOK is riding is from some mock up art that hasn’t been implemented for the motor bike stages. Ground tiles taken from the latest devlog (though currently unused). Water was just hue shifted.

Couple of minor bits I’ve done while I’ve got time before my big busy calendar block.
– Updated Profile Picture and Banner art on the YouTube Channel

– Added score popups for defeating enemies, see this short to see it in action
– Scheduled side by side level comparisons on Mondays and Weds each week ending on the 22nd November for currently made levels.
– You can see a bunch of extra material if you join the discord here.

PLOK Remake: Secret Level, Helicopters & More

Squeezing out a new PLOK devlog! I’m remaking the SNES game PLOK in the Unity game engine. This video covers adding a new secret stage. I’ve cut the intro this time in an attempt to keep the pace up and maintain watch time. A lot of different editing experiments in this one. Main things covered in the video are helicopters, sea mine looking enemies, new art, pause screen updates, loading transitions and warps on the world map.

PLOK Remake: Creating a World Map

Hey everyone! New devlog today, c0ntinuing to polish the first world from PLOK. Cotton Island. Quite a delay since the last video due to various things and covid. This devlog goes through creating a world map (with unlockable levels and backtracking, similar to a super mario bros game), custom font, scoring system and tweaks to the boss when they take damage to be more in line with the original game. There’s a discord available in the videos description for more regular updates and feedback. Hope you enjoy!

Adding POWERUPS and ENEMIES

Finally, after 5 months I’ve uploaded a new devlog on the PLOK remake. A few weeks after the original I started procrastinating how to do powerups in a way that would allow me to add lots of them. Around a month ago I pushed through this and prepared some content for YouTube shorts and now I’m ready to present a dive into the next few levels. I hope you enjoy :)

I Made A WarioWare Inspired Game in 48 Hours (GMTK 2023 Game Jam)

What do you mean you don’t know who Bario is? BarioWare: Swap is my entry to the Game Makers Toolkit Game Jam for 2023. The theme was Roles Reversed.

Logo/Theme art not created by me, taken from the GMTK Game Jam itch.io page

The examples given for this theme in its announcement video were;

  • Angry Birds where you build the towers instead of knocking them down
  • Pong where you play as the ball instead of the paddle
  • Tetris where you control the board/environment instead of the falling blocks
WarioWare DIY – A childhood favourite of mine

I applied the theme to WarioWare which became WarioWare but you’re in control of the microgames, now while a WarioWare game already exists where you make games (WarioWare DIY) I decided to make a game that instead has you modifying and setting up existing microgames to maximise your chances of defeating the player (The AI).

The AI popping the balloons

An example from the game includes a microgame where the AI is trying to pop balloons within 5 seconds, in this example you get 5 seconds to spread out the balloons as much as possible so the AI can’t click them all fast enough.

The human player filling the chest so the AI can empty it

You can play the game for free on itch.io, if you’re also taking place in the GMTK Game Jam, why not give BarioWare a rating while the submission page is still open? Thanks

Game Dev Direct – February 2023 (TomInbound Direct)

Hey everyone, I’m looking to get back into game more regular game development videos. To start this off I thought it would be fun to parody a Nintendo Direct and do my own set of announcements mostly related to new games and updates to old ones with a few channel updates thrown in for good measure. The direct only has 4 minutes of runtime (Please Understand) thought its quite dense on content and to the point! A new devlog series will air straight after the presentation and a few other goodies will also be available shortly after. Hope to see you there!
