The Basement Collection (PC) A collection of Edmund Mcmillen’s not so stellar games, at an affordable price.(£2.99)
Edmund Mcmillen the creator of two of my favourite games Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac. Previously having seen Indie Game: The Movie it made me want to look more into the early projects Edmund Mcmillen created. The Basement Collection features several games, unseen footage from Indie Game: The Movie, commentary’s about the different games, and little unlockables to get for the games ie for the game Spewer there is a particle test engine that you can mess with that Edmund Mcmillen himself used to help develop the game. However whilst this collection is great for fans of Indie Game: The Movie and Super Meat Boy for those who haven’t played the game or didn’t see Indie Game: The Movie, the collection just won’t seem good.
For example Meat Boy’s controls will feel clunky and sometimes wall jumping won’t seem to work correctly (which even for me I found irritating because he had tweaked a few different things in the games and so surely could improve the controls), Aether I found to be quite and interesting puzzle game, but keep in mind a lot of these games are very short. The main problem with the game is that most of the games are already free to play as flash games on newsgrounds, and one of the titles is missing I assume due to it’s more mature content and so you can check that game out by clicking here.
Therefore I would only recommend the game to people who are fans of Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac and Indie Game: The Movie or it will seem like a bad collection. If you haven’t played Super Meat Boy or The Binding of Isaac I strongly urge you to play these titles.
